Operation Year of Organization: Living Room Reveal

You guys. I can’t believe we’ve already arrived at reveal time! I’m so excited to show you the organizational changes I’ve implemented in our living room this month and am even more so to see what you all have done in yours! At the beginning of this month, our living room lacked functionality. It was a dumping ground for shoes, mail, school papers and other odds and ends, and at the end of the day, it felt more like a place where we dropped all of our stuff as we passed through instead of a place we lived in. I wanted to create a space that not only hosted a spot for every item, but eliminated the ability for extra “dropping” to keep the organization going for years to come. Using spare pieces I had around the house, some great free finds, and a few store-bought items, I created a living room space that is not only organized but is fully functional for our family. The added bonus was how beautiful it turned out! So without further ado…my new, improved and fully organized LIVING ROOM…

After Reveal Coming TOMORROW

I’ve been looking forward to my reveal post for three weeks now and hate to say, it must be postponed just one more day! After a grueling weekend of trying to build and piece together all the final details, I stayed up late last night to finalize the finishing touches. Anyone that knows me knows just how much of a clutz I am, and while staining the pieces at 2 this morning, I had my clutz flag flying high! Long story short, I’ve got several walls that need paint touch ups right now because it looks like they’re bleeding brown. Yikes! So I’ll get that touch up paint job handled later today along with all the photos, and the reveal will *FINALLY* be here tomorrow! Wahoo! And if I do say so myself, it’s one you’re not going to want to miss! I might have just set my personal bar a bit high for the rest of the house, but I don’t even care because I love it so! See you tomorrow! Crystal &nbsp…

Operation Year of Organization – January Tips for Your Living Room

We’re into week 2 of the new year, and on our way to an entirely organized home! This month, we’re concentrating on the living room. If you missed the details on why we started with the living room and how to start getting it organized and de-cluttered, you can find those posts here (why) and here (how). Today, I’m going to give you some pointers on conquering those different areas of clutter that can in our living rooms and how to create an environment that steers you clear of repeating past mistakes that helped you get and stay unorganized…

Why You Should Take Your Exhausted Friend to the Mattress Store

A few weeks ago I was utterly exhausted after having already spent weeks reeling from the cold and flu season that had taken up refuge in our home. The two year old and I were secluded in the house during the days in fear of contaminating the general public with our icky germs. To say I had cabin fever would be an understatement. Cabin fever had become our new home address. It was during a two-day span of no fevers and no symptoms that I received a call that answered my silent cry for help…

How To Get the Most Out of Your Living Room Organization

Hopefully you all have started on Operation Year of Organziation and this month’s space to organize – the living room! If not, or if you have no earthly idea what I’m talking about, you can get all the details about this month’s project here. In that post, I talked about what you should be doing this week to gear up for de-cluttering and organizing your living room so that it’s transformed into a space you love by the end of the month. I thought I’d break it down a bit more for you today to give you a better idea how to tackle it in small pieces, day by day…

Sausage in a Blanket

Remember when I told you that two of our three kids are picky about meat and only like sausage? Well, this is one of their favorite meals! Can I tell you a secret? It’s one of mine and my husband’s too! You may have grown up with “Pigs in a Blanket” using hot dogs inside of biscuits. I’ve had those a time or two, but when I was growing up, my mom put a different spin on it, and it was a total hit that has stuck with me ever since…

Operation Year of Organization: January – Living Room

Welcome to #OperationYearofOrganization! I’m so excited for this series for a number of reasons, but the biggest is that we’re all going to enjoy the wonderful feeling of actually getting our homes organized this year! No more new year’s resolutions that fall through. No more getting exhausted and worn out trying to tackle it all in a matter of a few weeks or months. No more giving up halfway through only to have to start all over again next year. This will be the year your house gets organized – and stays that way…

Get Your Home Organized in 2016

It’s the first day of the new year, and now is the time when everyone’s in the mindset of starting fresh! We set goals, make resolutions, and plan on revamping certain areas of our lives, and our homes almost always make the list. Most often, you see ways to declutter or organize your home in “x” amount of days. Generally, it’s within the first three months of the new year. I love the idea of getting it all done and out of the way, but realistically, how many of us actually complete the entire process? When it’s compacted into the first of the year, added to the fact that you have all of your other resolutions piling on top of it, it becomes very daunting to finish, and we get burnt out before we’re half way through. I’m taking a different approach to organizing my home in 2016, and I’d love to have you join me…

Setting Goals for the First Time and My Word for 2016

2016 is officially here, and I can’t express how amped up I am for it! I honestly can’t remember a time I felt better prepared or more energized to take on a new year. Want to know a secret? I’ve never made New Year’s Resolutions or set goals for the new year before! Seriously! Never! I have made goals from time to time without it being specific to the new year, but when it came to the entire year’s goals, I always figured I’d make impossibly long lists that could never be accomplished, I’d fail early on like I’d watched so many others before me do, and then I’d give up by February…

2015: A Year in Review

Looking back over the last year, it almost seems as though everything happened over a span of a few years instead of just one. It was a busy, trying year. We dealt with uncertainty, the possibility of moving, the stress of keeping a house meticulous for eight straight months while our home sat on the market (and believe you and me, with three kids, that’s extremely hard to do). We experienced highs and lows for Brandon at work, large fluctuations we didn’t expect in his industry that directly affects his available work, and came to realize that my work does, in fact, need to come from home and not outside it. We struggled. We overcame. We struggled some more. And although the struggles are still stacking up in this season of life for us, we have so much to be thankful for…
